In Honor of Esther Dahlvang
Esther Leone (Young) Dahlvang, 92, passed away on April 27, 2010, at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena.
She was born Feb. 6, 1918, to Voorhees Raymond “Ray” and Sarah Ann “Sadie” (Welch) in Wadena. Esther was united in marriage with Marvin Perry Dahlvang on Sept. 22, 1940, in Verndale. She was a member of TOPS, Camera Club, Thomastown Ladies Aid, and was President of the Dahlvang Reunion Committee for more than 20 years. She was an avid gardener and loved spending time with her family at the lake.
Funeral services were set for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, in the Thomastown Covenant Church in rural Staples, with the Rev. David Harlow officiating. Pallbearers were her grandsons, David Dahlvang, Brian Hendershot, Michael Hendershot, Derek Bratteli, Mitchell Bratteli, Zachary Bratteli and Ross Cariveau. Interment was at West Lyons Cemetery in Oylen. Arrangements were with the Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena (www.johnsonmemorialhome.com).
Survivors include her son, Duane (Peggy) of Visalia, Calif.; her daughters, Mardell Hendershot of Wadena, and Marlys (Darrell) Bratteli of Detroit Lakes; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Alma Young of Grand Rapids and Betty Dahlvang of Wadena; and several nieces and nephews.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, on Feb. 24, 2009; her parents, Ray and Sadie; brothers, Joe (Dora), and Elmer Young and an infant brother; sisters, Bessie Young, Edna (Palmer) Iverson, Emeline (Frank) McGrady, Edith (John) Jussila, and Lillian (John) Lay; and granddaughter, Julie Dahlvang.
